#5 REDMOND FOR REAL:PANTHERS DOWN MT. VIEW FOR IMC TITLE

Redmond High School stuck with their dauntless running game and took advantage of a few key mistakes from Mountain View Friday night, beating the defending 5A Champions, 22-10.

With the win, Redmond captures its first Intermountain Conference (IMC) Title since 2005, and improve their record to a perfect 8-0 mark.

RHS crashed their second Homecoming game of the season, this time at Jack Harris Stadium, despite falling behind to the #9 Cougars early, 10-0 as it was all Mt. View early on.

The top 10 heavyweights were pretty even early on.

Redmond actually went backwards on their first drive of the game, getting pushed up-front with pressure from players likeMt.Viewjunior LB Jace Johns, who had the only sack of the game. The opening drive would go for minus 4-yards.

After both teams punted on their first possessions, the Cougars drew first blood with a 42-yard touchdown pass from senior QB Tony Webb to senior WR John Carroll to cap a 44-yard drive.

Carroll finished the night with six catches for 89 yards. Mt.Viewled 7-0 going into the 2nd quarter, after each team both ended drives with a punt and a turnover on downs.

Redmond managed an eight play 41-yard drive to start the quarter, but turned it over on downs again, this time at the 15 yard-line of Mountain View.

The Cougs took advantage and marched the ball methodically down the field, going 76 yards on 13 plays, until the Panther defense held them at the nine.

Tipton added a 26-yard field goal, his third of the year with minutes to play in the first Half, to make it a 10-0 Mt.View advantage.

Then, Senior QB Andrew Leeland led his team on a touchdown scoring drive to break into the game with a pass for 27 yards to senior RB Trevor Hindman, then immediately followed with a 29-yard pass to senior WR Matt Dahlen.

Dahlen would lead Redmond in receiving yards that night with 79 on two catches, but it would be senior RB Trevor Genz who would make the touchdown catch from 13 yards out, puttingRedmond on the board.

The #9 ranked Cougars held just a 10-7 lead at the intermission.

Redmond would continue to score unanswered points in the 2nd half, and Genz’ night was far from over. The senior back (pictured below) led his team in rushing with 16 carries for 94 yards, but his first rushing touchdown didn’t come until the 4th quarter.

The Panther defense came out strong in the second half, holding the Cougars scoreless. Mountain View punted a season-high five times in the second half, and each time, it was after Redmond held them to a three-and-out.

In what would be the only points of the 3rd quarter, Redmond ran an eight-play 45 yard drive that ended with a 22-yard field goal from senior JD Abbas, knotting the game up 10-10.

In the 4th, Redmond got help from a pass interference penalty that set them up at the five yard line of Mountain View.  It wasn’t long before Redmond scored on a three-yard carry from Genz to make it 16-10, after a seven play, 55 yard drive.

Midway through the final quarter, Mt.Viewput together what looked like a promising drive, getting the ball to midfield on three plays.

But a costly fumble from Ayers, stripped by Abbas, led to a Panther recovery eventually at the 29-yard line ofMt.View. It would be the only turnover in the game, and put an end to any chance of a Cougar comeback.

Redmond finished the night, capitalizing off the turnover, going 29 yards, ending with another touchdown from Genz, this time from six yards out.

TheMountain View loss comes despite a tremendous effort from senior RB Kyler Ayers, who ran for 117 yards on 29 carries. He was the only Cougar rusher with more than one carry all night.

Redmond’s QB Leeland connected on just 5 of 22 passing, but threw for 127 yards and a TD, while avoiding any sacks. Senior RB Trevor Hindman was held to just 12 carries for 44 yards.

Mt. View QB Webb, who along with Leeland, did not throw any interceptions in the game, threw for 132 yards, going 10 for 20 and a touchdown.
