Cougar Defense Sparks Rally
Turner – The Cascade defense, which was run over repeatedly in the Cougars’ opening game 48-19 loss at Marshfield, and had given up the biggest single play of the game, stiffened when it mattered in their home opener against Sisters.
A late game stop that set up the Cougars with enough time to drive for the game tieing score with 24.4 seconds left, and then a 4th down tackle by Marcus Reyes of Sisters receiver turned quarterback Christopher Luz sealed a 17-14 win, and set off a field rushing celebration.
The game was scoreless through the first half, and well into the third quarter, mostly due to sizable struggles both offenses experienced, and not what either defense had done.
Sisters had an additional challenge when starting quarterback Zach Morgan left the game in the first quarter, forcing the Outlaws to pull Luz in from receiver to take over calling signals.
Sisters did come closest to breaking the scoreless tie mid way in the second quarter, but a bad snap prevented Austin Morss’ 25 yard field goal attempt from ever getting off.
