While the World Cup was going on, a different brand of football, American style, was being played at Summit High School on Monday (6/30).
The Summit Storm are hosting a series of ‘7-on-7 Passing League’ scrimmages through July with other local high schools that include Mt. View and Ridgeview.

The Ravens, last year’s Oregon OSAA 4A State Champion, who finished 2013 with a 13-1 record are preparing for their first season in the 5A ‘IMC’ Intermountain Conference.
The Ravens will be relying on Senior Quarterback Jacob Johnson this year. He says that he is optimistic about the teams’ chances of repeating “We are definitely confident especially after last year”
Ridgeview returns 2 Junior All-State 1st Team players in OL/DL Tim Steffey, and WR/DB George Mendazona.
But, the Ravens also lose 6 All-State players who graduated including 2-way stars Jack Bowman and Sam Hester. Plus, Ridgeview graduated All-State FB/LB Boomer Fleming who will wrestle at Stanford.

Head Coach Andy Codding says scrimmages like this are especially helpful for defensive players, “Defensively we need this.”
He says he was especially impressed with this year’s crop of cornerbacks which include Tanner Stephens, Johnson, Tanner O’Neal, Caleb Wood, Brett Blundell, Trent Pickett, Troy Purcell, Seth Whitley, and Jose Baez.
