ELKS CONTINUE TO ROLL IN A 'GRAND' WAY WITH CARROLL

The Bend Elks have been on a roll, winning 14 of their last 17, including a dominant 11-2 victory over The Kalamath Gems on Wednesday (7/7).

The star of the game for the Elks was Jo Carroll (Linfield College – Jr.) who smacked a grand slam with the bases loaded in the 1st inning.

Gems starting pitcher Micheal Silva did not last through the end of the 1st inning.

He walked the 1st 3 Elks batters to start the 1st to load the bases.

Then 1B Billy King (Ore St. – Fresh.) walked to drive in lead off hitter OF Justin Erldandson (Scottsdale C.C. – Fresh.).

1B Jonathan Brooks (Occidental – Jr.) scored from third on passed ball with the bases loaded, but would have been walked home when 2B/SS Nick Lopez (Creighton – Fresh.) was the 5th walk of the inning, to make it 2-0.

3B Brock Carpenter (Seattle U. – Fresh.) drove in OF Jake Peeveyhouse (ASU – Sr.) with first hit of the game, leaving the bases loaded for Mountain View graduate, OF Jo Carroll, who stepped up to the plate and walloped a grand slam over the left field fence to bring the score to 7-0

The Gems responded with 2 runs in the 3rd, but the Elks answered with two more runs of their own in the 4th, when Nick Lopez swatted a double, scoring Peeveyhouse and Erldandson.

Erldandson got an RBI of his own in the 5th when he singled in Jo Carroll, giving the Elks a 10-2 lead.

P Dalton Blackwell (Treasure Valley C.C. – Fresh.) crossed the plate for the Elks final run in the 6th inning on an error by the 3rd baseman.

Starting Pitcher Zack Carter (St. Martins College – Jr.) notched his 2nd win for the Elks, going 5 inning and giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 2.

Bend will host Eastern Division leading Yakima Valley (17-10) on for a 3 game series on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Vince Genna Stadium. .

They are now tied with The Corvallis Knights for first place in the Southern Division at 18-10.

The Elks and the Knights go head to head July 29, 30, and 31 at Vince Genna.
