A REAL CAT FIGHT SET FOR MT. VIEW HOME OPENER

The Mountain View Cougars are 1-0 after starting the season with a win in Wilsonville on Friday (9/5) 21-14.

The Cougars scored one touchdown in each of the first three quarters but had to rely on their defense to provide a last minute 4th down stand to secure the win.

Head Coach Brian Crum says the team did well, but there is room for improvement.

“It was a tough fought battle they are a pretty decent good football game and it came down to the very end… we made too many mistakes and we probably did not deserve to win, but we will take it.”

Crum says the time the team spent in the weight room in the off season helped them as the game went on.

“We did not have 1 kid cramp up and we have a couple of 2 way starts, 175 snaps in that game and they played nearly every darn one of them.”

The Cougars are coming home to face Central (Independence) at home this Friday (9/12).

The Central Panthers will have to keep on their toes on defense, because Mountain View will be featuring the 3-headed-monster quarterback group of Sr. Cody Anthony (6-2/215), Sr. Caleb Tatum (6-4, 185) and Soph. Mike Irwin (6-1/183).

All three bring different skills sets to the QB position and coach Crum says he plans on using all three against Central.

“All three of those guys pushed each other throughout the spring, throughout the summer, they all have slightly different attributes and they can all execute the offense.”

Crum says that they key to the victory in Friday will be the play of their offensive line, collective known as the ‘Bad Boys’, “They are the heart and soul of what our offense does”

On the defensive side of the ball, Coach Crum says that they are looking to come after Central to slow down their offense. “You are going to see different fronts and a series of blitzes… we an aggressive defense.”

The game will start at 7:00 at Jack Harris Stadium on the campus of Mountain View H.S.
