Not often are football linemen known to have a personality, or much of a sense of humor, except for one man from Prospect, Oregon who played in the NFL and two Super Bowls.
Andy Maurer passed away January 3, 2016 at the age of 67.
Of all the many sports figures I’ve met in my 25 year sports broadcasting career, Maurer may have been the funnest to interview.
You just never knew what he might come at you with, or how he would answer a question.
Maurer, a graduate of Prospect High School in a beautiful tiny town just north of Lost Creek Lake with a population of 650 went on to play at Oregon, then became a 3rd Round NFL draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons.
He would retire in Medford, Oregon where he went in to business and later would found the prep football program at Cascade Christian High School.
In 2006 his team won the OSAA ‘2A’ State Championship.
Maurer was a colorful and faith-based man who was more concerned about doing good and right, then what the final score read on a scoreboard.
Andy Maurer will be missed, and God bless his family and friends. Thank you Andy for all our conversations, on and off the air!

Listen to my last interview with Andy in 2012 just before the Super Bowl in which he started in 2 games, yet never won the Championship.
