NEVER KNOW WHO YOU'LL MEET ON THE ROAD WHILE SPORTSCASTING

Funny how you meet people in life, and thanks to sports and being around sports, I’ve met some very nice and cool people who become friends.

One lately happened to me while broadcasting for the OSU Beaver baseball team, and in March in Tucson, I rode an elevator with a nice man who was very cordial, quiet, and yet engaging when it came to mentioning the Beavers.

Later that night after our first Pac-12 League opening game and victory against the defending National Champion University of Arizona Wildcats, I would meet up with this gentleman again, and had a few honks in the Marriott Lounge with him and along with several other Beaver fans, parents, and alumns who were following Pat Casey and his team.

Come to find out, after some sports conversation, mainly talking about the Beavs, he divulges he is the son-in-law to the late Dee Andros.

Dee Andros?  Did you say Dee Andros? Oregon States most colorful and marketable brand ever in OSU history known as ‘The Great Pumpkin.”  

Dee Andros is a legend and was head coach of the Football Team for 10-years during a period one of his most successful teams was dubbed, ‘The Giant Killers’ for their Rose Bowl win and dumping USC.

Wow, I’ve just met Dee Andros’ daughter’s Husband!!

Phil Baker is the gentleman, and class act person who at night is known as one of the nation’s most re-knowned Bassist players. For the last 10-years, he has been with ‘Pink Martini.’  He’s a very intelligent and caring man, who is a Beaver Believer, and I thank him for engaging me in Beaver baseball talk and finding out who his band is.

Now, a guest and myself have accepted Phil Baker’s offer to enjoy complimentary tickets to their Friday night act in Bend-Pink Martini.

Guess what we’re having for dinner?  a Pink Martini!

and, for desert?  A GREAT Pumpkin pie with whipped cream in honor of seeing Phil Baker perform with Pink Martini and the late great Dee Andros.

There is a Beaver heaven….
