One of pro sports most colorful, opinionated and intense competitors, Rick Barry an 8-time NBA All-Star and World Champion has a new job.
Barry is in the shoe business just 34-years removed from a Hall of Fame career where he won a Title with the Golden State Warriors in 1975, and an ABA Title with the Oakland Oaks in 1969.
Barry is involved in ownership of a new shoe, Ektio (www.ektio.com), designed to help prevent sprained ankles.
Barry, who I once saw score 64 points in Portland at Memorial Coliseum, before the advent of the 3-point line, took time out from his grandson’s Little League game to join ‘The Biggest Little Sportstalk Show in Oregon,’ and he talks about what he likes in this years playoffs.
The Miami University graduate was the 2nd pick in the NBA Draft in 1965 by the San Francisco Warriors. He is the only player to ever lead the NCAA, ABA, and NBA in single-season scoring.
He also is a father of 5 sons, 4 of which also played professionally. His son Brent is an Oregon State graduate and won an NBA Title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2005.
And just why did Barry shoot free throws underhanded where he finished his career shooting .900 at the charity stripe?
The controversial legend ended is his career averaging 23.2 points per game and shot 45% from the field. He was inducted in to the Hall of Fame in 1987.
