It’s quite simple – the Oregon State Beavers are off to a 0-3 start in Pac-12 conference play. Poor play, coupled with what seems to be fatigue and general disinterest, the Beavers are struggling to stay above water after falling to the Arizona Wildcats 80-70. Arizona was coming off of their first loss of the season to the Oregon Ducks earlier this week, 70-66.

The short-handed Beavers shot 39% from the field, while the Wildcats went 47%. It seemed as if the statistics easily fell in the Wildcats favor, in part due to a poor defensive performance from Oregon State. Arizona’s Solomon Hill, a 6’7” senior, hit 5-8 three pointers, leading his team to go 10-25 from behind the arc. The Beavers hit five of their fifteen 3-point shots – Ahmad Stark shooting nine of them and connected on three. Starks led all scoring with 18, while Roberto Nelson and Joe Burton each added 15.

photo-1The Beavers have been missing the play of 6’10” sophomore Eric Moreland, who was averaging 10.8 points and 11.1 rebound per game, after he and teammate Victor Robbins violated team rules. They sat out in the Beavers pervious loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils 72-62.

Oregon State (10-6, 0-3 Pac-12) will now travel to UCLA (14-3, 4-0) on January 17, after going 1-4 on their five-game home stand. The Wildcats (15-1, 3-1) will travel to take on Arizona State (14-2, 3-0).
