It looks faster then a speeding bullet on water when following legendary Unlimited Hydroplane racer Dave Villwock’s career, and Championships.
Villwock, who lives in Seattle reflects on what it’s like to pilot a watercraft on bumpy water at over 150mph on most runs.
Above Villwock is seen getting the U-1 ‘Miss Bud’ up to a top speed of 165 mph in Seattle, where in 2014 he was Disqualified for contact with the Oberto boat.
Villwock is the all-time Champions leader having captured 10…yes, ten! H1 Unlimited Titles. Only the late great Bill Muncey and Chip Hanauer pale with 7 Championships each.
The Current H1 CEO and former 6-time circuit Champion Steve David ranks 4th all-time with career Titles.
Dean Chenoweth and Mark Tate both won 4-Championships
Jimmy Shane, in the Oh Boy Oberto boat is the two-time defending Champion having claimed the trophy in 2013 and 2014.
Villwock’s first Title was in 1996, then he won 7-straight driving the ‘Miss Bud from 1999 through 2004.
He went 7-years before he won and earned his last, to date, Title in 2001.
Race fans and competitors know, that there is a gentlemanly aura and theme to Villwock, but don’t think for a minute that on Sunday afternoon he will go out to give you all he knows, and has to make a great race and finish for any competitor on the circuit.
The former ‘Miss Budweiser’ Title driver shares his view on the sport, motor sports in general, and his path to many of Winner’s Circle podiums.
Villwock has won multiple H1 Unlimited racing Championships and will go down as one of the Andretti’s, Foyt’s, and Unser’s of hydroplane racing.
