The Ducks have struggled with getting hits and taking advantage of prime scoring situations this weekend. With only 3 runs in the series coming into Sunday, Oregon Head Coach George Horton’s advice to his players was to relax and enjoy the game.

“The At-bats looked more in character and the kids weren’t as stressed out, we still had the same passion and will to win, but it looked like they had fun with it”

Vanderbilt helped out Oregon in the eighth, where the Ducks scored 5 of their 7 runs with only 1 hit, a double by Scott Heineman, that brought in Steven Packard and Tyler Baumgartner for 2 of the 5 runs.

Another aspect of the Oregon game-plan was bunting. In the first inning, the first 3 players at bat for Oregon got on base by bunting, with the exception of Aaron Payne, who reached base by error.

Heineman also increased his bunting with 3 total, in an effort to use his speed to benefit the team.

“This is a great bunting surface and recently I haven’t been taking advantage as much as I should on that. I’m trying to use my speed a little more for the team.”

-Scott Heineman

The Oregon Ducks (11-5), will take on Texas State (5-9), on Tuesday in Eugene.
