The Mountain View Cougars survived a late charge by the high powered offense of the Central High Panthers, now a 5A team, to earn a well-deserved victory, winning 46-30 at Jack Harris Stadium in what fans referred to as the ‘Cat Fight’.
Mountain View jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the game behind touchdowns from Mike Irwin and Caleb Tatum, two of Mountain View’s quarterbacks who split snaps throughout the night.
Irwin, a Sophomore, completed 6 of 7 passes for 161 yards and two scores.
The Panthers brought their home run hitter, RB #32 Wesley Riddell (Sr. 5-11/175) who broke off a 40 yard run on a sweep, displaying his amazing speed to score the first 6 points for Central, following that up with a two point conversion to make it 14-8.
Riddell amassed 242 yards and two touchdowns.
Mt.View’s Cody Anthony ran for 77 yards, and 3 TD’s.
#3 Mountain View improves to 2-0 on the season and will be meet the 1-1 Crater Comets at Crater High School in Central Point, Oregon. Crater is a former 6A level team which drops down to play 5A levele this year.
This will begin a three game road trip for the Cougars where they will also travel to play Springfield, and then return to Bend to meet the Summit Storm to open IMC League play on October 3rd.
The Cougars return to Jack Harris Stadium on October 10th when they host The Dalles.
Central drops to 1-1 on the season after the loss, and will travel next to meet the South Albany Rebels (2-0) who took down (1-1) Ridgeview, 27-7 Friday night ending the Ravens 13-game win streak.
