It is next to impossible to find a basketball contest more rivaled and more exciting than the Civil War series between the Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks.
The Beavers and Ducks came together Sunday evening, marking the 338th meeting between the two teams, making the Civil War the most contested rivalry in all of college basketball.
The Ducks overpowered a slow Beavers team to win 79-66 at Gill Coliseum to open Pac-12 play for Oregon State.

Oregon State seemed in control from the outset, and less then four minutes into the game, Eric Moreland took a long pass for a breakaway dunk, but the feeling did not last.
Leading by six at the halftime break, Oregon State came out extremely sluggish at fell victim to a big run.
“You can’t start the second half on a 15-2 run negative, and expect to beat a team who is getting votes in the top 25. And that pretty much sums it up,” said head coach Craig Robinson after the loss.
Ahmad Starks led the Beavers, and all scorers with 22, but it was the play of Roberto Nelson that seemed to anchor Oregon State. Nelson netted 18 points.
It was tough for the Beavers to get their offense going in the second half, with Olaf Schaftenaar going 0-7 from the field, and 0-5 behind the 3-point arc.
Oregon was led by Damyean Dotson 21 and E.J. Singler’s 15.
With the win, the Ducks improve to 12-2 overall, while the Beavers slip to 10-4.
The Beavers next play host to Arizona State (2-0/13-2) on Thursday (Pac-12 Networks) with tip off at 8:30pm.
Oregon greets #3 ranked, and undefeated, Arizona (2-0/14-0) also on Thursday in Eugene at 6p (ESPN2)
