Saturday night, starting pitcher Zack Carter (Jr. St. Martin’s College) nothced 6 strike outs in 3-2/3 innings for his 4th win of the year.
The Elks (31-22) stared the game with 1 run in the opening frame on a double by Madras and University of Portland graduate, OF Turner Gill.

The Gems (14-39) made it a 1 run game in the 5th, on RBI singles by LF Thomas Walker and 1B Steve Packard.
But in the 6th, Zach Close (Jr. A.I.B.) knocked in a run to give the Elks a 4-2 lead.
Then, with the bases loaded, the Gems walked 5 Elks in a row to make it to 9-2.
The Elks added another run in the 8th when 1B Jonathan Brooks (Jr. Occidental) was walked with the bases loaded to make it 10-2
King lead the Elks from the plate going 2-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s.
After the game King said “We really needed this, especially with Winatchee hot on our tails.”
The Elks came into the game tied with the Wenatchee AppleSox for a wild card spot in the playoffs with two games left in the season.
Since the Elks had an advantage in head to head match ups with the Applesox, they had a magic number of 2, any combination of 2 Elks wins, and/or AppleSox losses would result in Bend getting the wild card spot.
The AppleSox fell to the East Division champions Yakima Valley in extra innings 7-6 on Saturday.
The Elks will be losing a familiar face at the stadium, as their mascot, “Homer” is retiring Sunday night.
The crowd voted to name his replacement “Vinny” after Vince Genna. Attendees received Homer bobble heads, and the Ducks and Beaver mascots showed up to help Homer celebrate his career.
The Elks wrap up the regular season Sunday night against the Gems with game time at 5:05.
