FORMER PHOENIX PIRATE STAR TAKES ON #13 OREGON

One of the coolest things being a reporter/broadcaster is seeing some of the student-athletes you get to know, and cover, make the big time in Sports.

Alex Young, a 2011 Phoenix HS graduate, who led the Pirates to the 4A State Title at Gil Coliseum is one of those kids who is making some noise in NCAA Division-I basketball.

The Anteater was Oregon’s 4A Player of the Year in 2011 dazzling opposing coaches and teams enroute to a Championship.

Young is in his second year as starting point Guard for U-C Irvine as the Anteaters (6-5) from the Big West walk in to Matt Knight Arena Tuesday hoping to knock off the 13th ranked, and 9-0 Ducks.

Young is a soft-spoken,, yet confident, young man who has handled victories and defeats with class and professionalism.  He knows what doing the ‘right thing’ means as his father, Willie Young, was a tremendous hoopster playing for Southern Oregon State in the late 80’s.  And, the apple didn’t fall far from the tree with the younger Young.
