The Ridgeview Ravens (2-1) withstood a 30-point first half barrage by the Hood River Valley Eagles (1-2) to earn a win Friday at Ridgeview High School, 61-51.
Sr. WR Tanner O’Neal (6-2/175) caught 4 of Sr. QB Jacob Johnson’s (6-4/230) 8 touchdown passes for Ridgeview, as the 2 star players led a furious 2nd half comeback that saw Johnson throw touchdowns to 3 different receivers in the 4th quarter—O’Neal, Sr. HB Cooper Shaw (5-8/155) and Sr. TE Dakota Curtis (6-0/190).
Hood River Valley went up 12-0 early by scoring 4 minutes into the 1st half on a 1 yard run from Sr. RB Patrick Crampton (5-10/165), then 4 minutes later after a Ridgeview punt, Hood River scored again on a 7 yard John Gray reception.
Although both teams found it easy to get into the end zone as a total of 17 touchdowns were scored, but both sides had difficulty converting PAT’s.
The Ravens outscored Hood River Valley 22-0 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 30-19 halftime deficit.
Hood River Valley’s last chance to put the Ravens away came as stellar Eagles Sr. QB Riley Van Hoose (6-2/180) led 3 different scoring drives as he scored himself on 2 of them, and tossing a 75 yard pass to Crampton.
After Johnson threw his 8th touchdown, a 33 yard strike to Cooper Shaw, a final drive by Hood River ended with Van Hoose’s 3rd interception of the night, a pass that was tipped and then picked by Colton Jolley at the Ridgeview 18 with 1:53 remaining.
The Ravens improve to 2-1 on the year and their home undefeated streak remains intact. The Ravens’ last home loss came on Sept. 7 2012, when they lost to Klamath Union.
The Eagles fall to 1-2 on the year as part of the 5A-5 Columbia River Conference.
Next Friday, Ridgeview travels to play the 3-0 and #2 ranked Ashland Grizzlies, who defeated Summit Friday night 35-14 to remain undefeated on the year.
Hood River Valley hosts 3-0 Redmond. The Panthers blasted The Dalles, 61-0.
