The atmosphere for playoff baseball is at its peak in Oregon. Stands full, fans excited, and everything on the line. Coaches, scouts, recruiters, D-1 recruits…you never know who will be at Oregon high school playoff game.
Case in point at the OSAA 6A semifinal with defending Champions, the North Medford Black Tornado.
Head Coach Brett Wolfe, with two titles and just past his 100 career wins mark hosting the upstart McMinnville Grizzlies.
Repeat on the minds of Medford fans, upset on the part of McMinnville starting pitcher David Brosius, a senior on his way to Oregon State next fall.
So pre-game interviews included both coaches, and one with the Dad of staring Grizz hurler, to talk about the sport.
Oh yeah, his Dad just happens to be Scott Brosius, 1998 World Series MVP – New York Yankee, and National Championship Coach (2013) at Linfield College in Medford in flip flops to watch his boy.
He couldn’t have been a nicer guy…and for me being a Yankee fan for over 45 years it couldn’t have been a bigger treat in my gig.
We talked Rex Putnam, Linfield, Medford A’s, Oakland A’s, New York Yankees, all on the career path for Scott, and now being a fan of his son David.
He said he was more nervous today than when he hit two home runs in one World Series game against the San Diego Padres on his way to becoming series MVP.
Sadly, the young Brosious was denied a shot at the OSAA 6A Title game as the Grizzlies were defeated by West Linn in the semifinals, 1-0.
