A two-run sixth inning wasn’t quite enough to overcome the Buffalos
ESTACADA, OR – Saturday was a beautiful day for softball at Coe Field. After back to back home runs by senior Hailey Clark and Freshman Rylie Canifax, it wasn’t quite enough as the Madras Lady Buffaloes beat the Lady Rangers 8-6.
The scoring started early for the Lady Rangers (8-5, 1-3 Tri-Valley League), as senior catcher Hailey Clark took the first pitch from Lady Buffaloes (8-5, 3-1) sophomore Lizzie Steuart and smashed it over the center field fence for an early 1-0 lead. “When I saw that pitch,” said Clark about the home run, “I was like, ‘No. She [Steuart] needs to be punished!”

Freshman Rylie Canifax wants a part of the action as well, as she took the second pitch she was offered for a solo shot to make it 2-0. “When I saw Hailey do it [hit her home run], I was like, ‘OK, now I have to do one,’”, said Canifax, talking about her home run in the first. “I saw the ball right down the middle, well, and took a swing at it and it went over.”
