LETTER OF INTENT DAY: Central Oregon Prepsters moving on to College

The Summit Storm, Mt View Cougars and Bend Lava Bears will all be sending student athletes to play in different levels of college in many different sports.

 

 

Summit, who brought home championships in Football, Volleyball, Girls Soccer, and are currently ranked #4 in the OSAA for Basketball, had 11 student athletes signing at a ceremony in the library of Summit High School on Wednesday Feb 3.

  • Troy Viola – Baseball – Central Arizona College
  • Noah Yunker – Football – Portland State

The class of Summit students are not just exceptional at their particular sports, but also excel in the classroom with an average GPA of 3.57. Sarah Heinly has the best GPA of the group, 4.0.

The ceremony included a short speech from Summit Athletic Director Gabe Pagano, and cupcakes decorated with the colors of the the teams the students are going to. The parents do this as a yearly tradition to celebrate their children’s success.

A few hours later at the Cascade Indoor Sports Complex, students from Bend and Mountain View who played together for the Cascade Rush soccer team signed their letters of intent together.

  • Bryant Jolma – Bend – Soccer – Southern Oregon University
  • Zach Emerson – Mt View – Football – University of Oregon
  • Trace Whatley – Mt View – Soccer – Clark College
  • Chance Flammang – Bend – Soccer – Rogue Valley

(Kelly Gieber of Bend also has received offers but still had yet to choose which offer to take as of the writing of this article.)

The Rush are a youth league teams which prides itself on helping students get to college, and work with schools to accommodate students who play multiple sports. They were founded in Bend 4 years ago. Jolma, Emerson, Whatley, Flammang and Gieber have all been team mates on the Rush.

Zach Emerson of Mt View and Cam McCormick will be team mates with the Oregon Ducks. Emerson said that he was told to start the application process after he won a kick off and field goal competitions at a camp at the University of Oregon and looks forward to playing for the Ducks.
