What is Football without a great rival? One of the best ever is back in Northern Marion County! Photo Brent DeLaPaz Woodburn Independent Fall 1986- Pictured Woodburns Kit Cummings, and North Marions Kevin Pearson. Two good friends, who simply wore different uniforms.
The Woodburn/ North Marion rivalry, is one that stretches back into the early 1950’s when The NM School District came into being. I have witnessed a ton of this great sport since the 1970’s and I am here to tell you, this rivalry was second to none in The Willamette Valley, until it dissolved in the 1990’s.
It was resurrected once again in 2006, when North Marion pounded out four wins in a row against The Bulldogs, finishing the streak in 2009 with a 32-0 win at Woodburn. As far as I can remember, the last time Woodburn would have had a win in the series, would have been the Cory Sonnen led Bulldog teams of the early 1990’s. That win for NM in 2009, would be the last time these two great rivals would go at each other on the field.
