RAVENS LOOK TO OVERTHROW THE REBELS AT SOUTH ALBANY

Last year’s OSAA 4A State Champion Ridgeview Ravens are 1-0 after defeating Baker on the road last Friday (9/5) 35-18 and they are preparing for their second game of the year this Friday at the South Albany Rebels, who just blew out Eagle Point last week, 48-6.

After falling behind 18-7 in the first half, the Ravens were able to turn it on in the 3rd quarter, dropping 21 points on the Rebels. They rounded out the scoring in the 4th with another touchdown.

Head Coach Andy Codding says the team took a little bit to get started, “we started slow, we only had 7 yards in the first quarter… but the kids flipped the switch and they figured out how to right the ship a little bit.”

Sr. Tanner O’Neal (6-2/175) and Sr. Tanner Stevens (5-8/160), or “Tanner Squared” as they are known by their teammates, won the player of the game awards on both sides of the ball, O’Neal on offense with 125 yards receiving and 2 TDs and Stevens on defense.

“We kinda just realized that we were playing better than the other team… and that we just needed to stop making silly mistakes.” said O’Neal.

Sr. QB Jacob Johnson (6-4/230) looked very sharp, completing 82% of his passes, 9-11 for 180 yards, 2 TD’s and no interceptions.

Jr. FB Brent Yeaky  lead the team in rushing with 81 yards and 1 TD.

Coach Codding says the key to winning against the Rebels high scoring offense will be in the trenches, “we need to be able to control the line of scrimmage.”

After getting their first win of the year he says that the team still has some room to grown, but he likes what he sees so far, “We are happy with the progress we are making.”
