The Mt.View Cougars haven’t lost too many athletic contests on their own turf, diamond, or hardwood in the last few years, but don’t tell that to the Redmond Panthers.
7th ranked Redmond, with a senior laden team, rolled in to ‘The Black Hole,’ the home court of the #3 rated Cougars of Mt.View, and did what they did last fall in football.
The Panthers beat Mt.View, 56-49.
Redmond has not lost to the Cougars this school year as they won the initial court date, winning at Dick Branaugh Court 62-55, just 8-days in to the new year.
And, Redmond stunned the Cougs on their home turf in football, too, to capture their first IMC League Title in 11-years, too.
Senior Trevor Genz led all scorers with 24 points including this one highlighted in the above video to keep Redmond on top early in the first half.
But, Mt. View can shoot it, too, and Sophomore Ments Haugen showed his skill from behind the arc with a team-high 16.
Haugen is one of the funnest players to watch in recent years as he plays like a Freshman in College, and yet is just a Sophomore in High School.
Haugen and the Cougars tied it at half, 22-22.
But, the Panthers opened the 2nd half red hot from outside again with Mason Rodby contributing to lead Redmond to a 5-0/12-4 record.
REDMOND MASON RODBY 3 TO START 2ND HALF
Then, Mt.View tried to break down the Panthers defense as they kept the game within 6 points in the waning minutes of play.
But, Redmond held its ground, again. Not many teams have done that in Mt. View’s gym since Craig Reid has coached the Cougs.
The Panthers had 2 stops, 2 defensive boards, and a blocked shot in the final few minutes forcing Mt. View to foul to preserve time, and play the percentages that Redmond might miss at the line.
REDMOND STUDENTS “YOU GOT SWATTED“
Finally, Redmond secured its second win of the season series against a well-coached, and solid program in Mt. View which drops to 2-2/12-3.
“We did a great job of playing under control, and within ourselves.” Expressed Redmond Head Coach Jon Corbett after his teams 7th straight victory.
The two teams meet one final time once again back inside ‘The Black Hole’ on Tuesday, February 12th.
“We just didn’t play well enough against a pretty quality team in Redmond,” said 13th year Mt. View Head Coach Craig Reid.
Mt. View hosts Ridgeview Tuesday in a non-league game, while Redmond welcomes Crook County.
