After going 1-8 last year with a team which was mostly made up of Sophomores, and after seeing the cross town rival Ridgeview Ravens win the 4A State Championship, Head Coach and Athletic Director Nathan Stanley said they have something to prove “having gone through a year where they struggled in terms of competition, I think that physical toughness challenged us.. and there were times last year when our youth showed… Hopefully through the hard work in the off season and in the summer time, that will come back and be something that will bear fruit this year…We want to be successful and compete this year.”

Coach Stanley got his wish at the Panthers dominated on both sides of the ball.

The game’s MVP was RB Derrek Brown (Jr. 5-10/170), who had 254 yards from scrimmage, scored more points himself, 5 TD’s, than the entire Franklin roster, on runs of 59, 23, 22, 11 and 18 yards respectively, including 3 in the first quarter.

Brown says this game was an important test after losing at Franklin last year 41-31, “…redemption from last year from losing to them, my line made it really easy.”

Despite the dominant performance, the Panthers do have some issues they will need to address to continue their success.

The offense gave up 5 turn overs, including fumble by Brown in the 2nd quarter which went through the back of the Quakers end zone for a touch back.
