Santiam had an amazing season in 2017, making a run all the way to the 2A State Finals after finishing as the runner-up in the very tough Tri-River League. Tonight they opened with a former league foe The Regis Rams on the road, and it was all Santiam in the 52-6 win out in Stayton.
Both teams had some miscues and penalties along with some stout defense, that saw the first quarter end with no score on the board. Santiam finally put together a solid drive in the second quarter that ended with Junior RB Brody Davidson punched in the first score for The Wolverines 2018 season from 4 yards out at the 9:04 mark. The two point conversion would fail. Santiam 6 Regis 0
The Wolverines are very solid in the backfield returning the two work horses from last year in Davidson and fellow Junior Trevor Tinney, and Tinney was the next to make his mark, scoring after a very strong run up the left sideline with 6:23 left in the first half. The PAT once again would fail, but Santiam was starting to roll on both sides of the ball, while their defense was all over The Ram offense and Senior QB Kirkland Scott. Tinney was running so hard, you swore the kid was in two different jerseys for most of the first half 😉
