The Medford Rogues (7-6) defeated the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox (3-8) 4-1 on Tuesday Night. The official time of the game was 2 hours, 7 minutes.

Shortstop Riley Way (Lewis-Clark State) hit a ball to the right field corner to lead off the third inning. Way used his wheels to leg out a triple.

Center fielder Cole Carder (Linn-Benton College) walked to put runners on the corners for first baseman and Great West League home run leader, Kody Garvin (Lewis-Clark State).

Carder stole second without a throw. Garvin grounded out to second base, but it scored Way and moved Carder to third.

With catcher Cole Elvis (UC-Berkeley, 2019) at the plate, Gold Sox pitcher Nick Ultsch gave up a wild pitch, allowing Carder to score.

Yuba-Sutter answered in the top of the fourth. Catcher Jacob Terao led off the inning with a solo home run to cut the Rogues lead in half.

Starting pitcher Tyler Burch* (Lewis-Clark State) got into some trouble in the early innings but struck his way out of multiple jams. He finished with nine strikeouts, no walks, and one earned run in six innings of work.

In the eighth inning, right fielder Brandon Bena (Iowa Western) reached on an error, Elvis walked, and then left fielder Josh McIntyre (Fullerton JC) walked to load the bases with no outs.

Second baseman Riley Kasper (Saddleback College) grounded a ball to Gold Sox shortstop Elijah Smith, who threw home for the force out. The through was low and wide, allowing Bena to score.

Designated hitter AJ Miller* (University of Oregon, 2019) hit a sac fly to left field to score Elvis before Way grounded into a 5-2-3 double play to end the inning. The Rogues scored two runs without registering a hit in the inning.

Relief pitcher Chase Spinning (Saddleback College) fired three scoreless innings and picked up the save. He also struck out three. He has now thrown 12 innings without allowing an earned run.

Third baseman Tommy Ahlstrom (Simpson University) went 2-4 with a stolen base.

Gold Sox relief pitcher Angel Mora exited the game after taking a line drive off the chest. He walked off the field under his own power.

The announced attendance for tonight’s game was 1,104.

The two teams will play Game Two of the three-game series tomorrow night. After this three-game series, the Rogues will host the Chico Heat for a three game series that will feature Star Wars Night on Saturday, June 16th and Superhero Night on Sunday, June 17th.
