BEND ELKS OFF TO GREAT START TO LEAD WCL, BUT SUFFER A LOSS

The Bend Elks have been riding high, with 7 wins and only 1 loss, the best record in the West Coast league.

But the 3-5 Vancouver HarbourCats came to town and dropped the Elks 4-3 Sunday (6/13).

After both teams left the bases loaded in the 2nd inning, the Bend Elks belted 3 runs in the 3rd.

OF Christian Cavaness started the scoring, taking home on a wild pitch by Vancouver’s O’Toole. OF Dalton Herd followed with an RBI single scoring IF Evan Haberie.

SS Tyler Davis crossed the plate on an IF Frank West Tunnell V sacrifice fly.

However, the Harbor Cats answered with a home run by Oregon State Beaver and recently drafted Toronto Blue Jay 1B Gabe Clark.

That was followed by a RBI sacrifice fly by IF Torin Goldenstien, driving in OF Austin Guibor to reduce the Elks lead to 3-2.

The Cats tied it up in the 6th inning, when C Jackson Thorenson scored on a wild pitch. IF PJ Floyd singled in the game winning run, scoring Guibor.

P Sean O’Toole chalked up the win for the HarbourCats, going 5 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 8 hits, while RP Josh Mitchell got the save, limiting the Elks to 1 hit and no runs in the last two innings.

Eric Lex took the loss for the Elks, pitching 3.1 innings, and giving up 1 earned, and 1 unearned run.

The 7-2 Elk still lead the 5-3 Medford Rogues in the South Division of the West Coast League, and still own the best record in the West Coast League.

Bend ventures out of town for a 6-game road trip with three games in Klamath Falls, and 3 in Corvallis through June 21st.

The Elks return home to face the Corvallis Knights for a 3-game set June 23-25 at Vince Genna Stadium.
