OUTLAWS WEATHER RAIN DELAY TO ADVANCE TO FINAL-4 AGAIN

The #1 ranked Sisters Outlaws continue to roll through the playoffs with a 8-3 Quarterfinal win over Newport on Friday (5/30).

Starting pitcher Jr. Justin Harrer whiffed 5 batters and gave up only 3 runs, but also crossed the plate 3 times himself.

The Outlaws under Head Coach Steve Hodges advance to the OSAA State Semifinals Tuesday (June 3) and will host perennial 4A power (22-7) North Marion.

After a half hour rain delay, Newport jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when SS Luke Richcreek singled, and was drove in by a  Jace Duty single.

Then, in the bottom of the first, the Outlaws unleashed a storm of their own scoring 4 runs.

Harrer lead off, getting to first on an error. SS Jardon Weems drove him home with a single. And, Harrer went the distance to get the win on the mound.

Weems said his teammates still have a lot of work to do “We need to treat every game like we are playing the best team in the state, because at this point that is what it is” .

This was followed by RBI’s from 3B Ryan Funk, 1B Cody Kreminski and CF Alex Olivier. Sisters owned a 4-1 lead after the opening frame.

The game was paused again for a half an hour after the first inning, but the rain cleared in time to finish the game before dark.

Senior Joey Morgan, who won their first round game from the mound against Mazama 3-2, went 2 for 3 from the plate with two RBI’s on a ground rule double in the 2nd with the bases loaded to give sisters a 6-1 lead.

Newport scored 2 runs in the 3rd to bring the game within 3 on a 2 RBI single by Duty. Duty lead Newport from the plate, going 3-4 and driving in all 3 of their runs. The Cubs finish the season 16-9, while Sisters improves to 24-4.

Kreminiski  knocked in Morgan in the 5th to round out the scoring.

Sisters Coach Steve Hodges thanked the team after the game “I have never coached a game in June, you just gave me the biggest gift of my career, allowing me to coach a team in June.”

 The Outlaws will face off against North Marion on June 3rd in the semi finals, and then the winner will take on either Ridgeview, or Henley in the Championship, June 7th at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.

Ridgeview scored a 6-3 road win at Baker to advance to the semis.

The last time Sisters made it to the finals was 2002, when they lost to The Dalles 17-6,  the same year Freshman OF Alex Cook was born.  The Outlaws have made it to the Final-4 in 2002, 2008, and 2013.
