This very well could prove to be a GREAT local prep story in getting the second ‘mainstream’ Prep sports team to a Championship game this school year, on the heels of Mt.View’s Football Title last December.
What’s at stake is more then bragging rights, however.
#1 Summit HS (Bend) of the Class 5A ranks is 22-5 entering the OSAA U.S Bank/Les Schwab Tires Championship Playoffs entertaining Wilsonville (14-13) Wednesday in Central Oregon.
KTVZ Newschannel 21’s Bob Shaw is forcasting mostly Sunny Skies and temps in the mid 50’s Wednesday as the Storm are among the favorities in the 5A Field to win it all, along with Pendleton, North Eugene, and Sherwood.
But, this is also proving to be the year of the upset as we saw 2 Top-10 teams get dumped yesterday in the 6A Playoffs in the likes of LO, and Central Catholic.
Will Summit be the Cinderalla #1, or will their Heart get broken at the Prom, and ousted early?
Maybe..just maybe, not since 2002 has central Oregon pushed a team to the Prep Baseball Title Game when Sisters lost to The Dalles.
Summit has the potential, and the extraordinary pitching under the direction of Head Coach C.J. Colt, and advisor-mentor, Alan Embree, the former MLB veteran World Series Champion of 14-years from The Dalles.
Summit is for real, and hear what Kevin Hamman humbly has to say about this team, and the opportunity to make history.
His record is 15-0 with a 1.08 ERA, and he has struck out 92, and walked only 19. Hamman also has 6 complete game victories on the year
SUMMIT’S KEVIN ‘SOUP’ HAMMAN-Pitcher (15-0)
Bend HS, was the last CO Team to win a Baseball Title in 1987.
IN other Playoff Games involving CO teams:

#3 Bend (16-8) vs. Sandy-4:30p
#3 Sisters (22-2) vs. Gladstone-5p
#14 Madras (14-9) @ Baker-4p
