It isn’t often the Mt. View Cougars lose on their home court known as ‘The Black Hole.’ And, Saturday afternoon might prove to be one of the better games contested before the 2013-14 season ends in March as Mt. View defeated Crater (Medford), 66-54 in a preseason game.

But, the game was closer then the score indicated as Crater came to play and led most of the game.
Mt. View was led by Sophomore guard Davis Holly, and Junior backcourt mate Ments Haugen who each scored 18 points to lead the Cougars to a hard-fought win over a young Crater team.
Crater was led by Jacob Hintemeyer’s 14 points and Race Reiter’s 12-points 10 rebounds.
The Cougars improve to 2-1, while Crater (0-2) drops its first two games under new Head Coach Glenn Johannes who guided Phoenix (25-6) to the 4A Title in 2011.

Last year Mt. View came within one game of the 5A Title game and settled for 5th place losing to Silverton, 66-54 in the 3rd Place game at Matt Knight Arena. Coach Craig Reid, who’s team finished last year 22-5, returns for his 14th season.
Next up, the Cougs travel to Eugene to face Churchill coached by former Redmond State Champion coach Kelly Bokn. League play begins in the IMC on January 10th.
Keep your eyes on Crater who will be reclassified in thge 5A division next season, as they have only 3 seniors including starter Connor Lane.
The Comets feature freshman guard Luke Pomeroy, sophomore Hintemeyer, along with juniors Dean Orozco, Gunnar Asher, Dylan Morgan, and Reiter who merge a pretty competitive team.
