In my 5-years covering sports in central Oregon, I’ve not seen as good a Girls basketball player then Mekayla Isaak of Bend.
And, maybe even more a dominating player claiming back-to-back IMC ‘Player of the Year’ honors.
Abby Scott of Madras (class of 2012) and Isaak have been two of the best in a decade in the high desert. Scott is now starring at New Mexico State for the Aggies averaging 10.8 ppg.
Mekayla’s story, well I’ll let her explain how she ‘red-shirted’ her first year at Montana. From being a 2-3 year Prep star, to putting a pause in your hoops cause.

Isaak is a player with alot of talent, and a good chance to be an impact player in the Big Sky. Her size and speed will be mitigated as she learns how to contend with Division-1 competition.
The left-hander led Bend HS to the 2012 & 2013 OSAA State Tournament, only to be bounced in 2 straight her senior year. As a 3-year starter she led the Lady Lava Bears to a 55-21 record, and 3 straight ‘IMC’ League banners under veteran Coach Todd Ervin.
Now, Grizzly head Coach Robin Selvig has all of her Grizz back in 2014, but 2 seniors, and Isaak will be a (RFr) Redshirt Freshmen ready to attack the Big Sky foes.
Montana finished 23-11 last year, 14-6 in the Sky, and lost in the N-I-T Quarterfinals.
