St Paul Volleyball Looks To Contend In 2017
Fall sports out at St Paul High School, has the small community buzzing, and rightly so. The Football Team is one of if not the best team in The Tri-River League, and they are also a top contender to win it all this year at the 2A level b…
Huskies Tame The Tigers
The North Marion Volley Ball Program, entered the season with a new coaching staff, and are simply taking the “one match at a time”, philosophy under new coach Jackie Arnold. Arnold has an extensive Club and High School Volleyball background, both here in Oregon as well as Virginia before joining The Huskies this year.
Dallas ready for first test of season
Dallas cruised through the first two weeks of the season with a perfect record—not only undefeated but unscored upon. The Dragons also lead all 5A teams with 94 points.
However, it’s fair to note that the opponents were Parkrose and North Eugene, both coming off 0-9 seasons and still winless this year.
The road for Dallas gets steeper as league play begins Friday in the tough Mid-Willamette Conference with a road game at Silverton, a high-level program also off to a 2-0 start under its new coach, Josh Craig.
As usual, Dallas is a running team. Coach Tracy Jackson, in his sixth year at Dallas, hopes to air it out a little more, and he has a quarterback with good size and a strong arm in senior Jaret Stewart to test those waters.
One of his key targets is TJ Dimick, a 6-2, 230-pound senior who was second-team all-state last year.
Even with consistent passing, Dallas’ single-wing offense has enough options to move the ball.
Tanner Earhart, the 2016 5A player of the year as a 2,068-yard running back, has been replaced by a deep array of ball carriers. Evan Courtney gets most of the work, gaining more than 200 yards in each of the first two games.
The defense should win some games for the Dragons. Third-year starter Treve Earhart at middle linebacker didn’t gain all-league honors last year because he missed several games with a wrestling injury (he was state runner-up at 195 pounds), but he’s the heart of the D-side.
Dimick, Courtney and Bryce Grillo were honorable mention defenders last year.
They are getting a lot of support this year from 325-pound nose tackle Justin Ingram, who missed his junior year with an injury.

St Paul Slays The Dragons
It’s always such a beautiful sight out at The St Paul Rodeo Grounds in The Fall, and this night was no different. The Bucks came out in their Blue and White ensemble, and made a nice statement that this year could be very special out in our little town.
Wildland Fire Alters Opening Weekend Schedules
Wildland fires burning in numerous locations throughout Oregon and the northwest have put up enough smoke into the air, and its spread far enough, that air quality conditions have necessitated several changes to sports schedules.

Rangers Hungry For 4A Championship This Fall
After a blow to North Bend in the Semi-Finals last year, Seniors Nick Keller and Jared Weaver look to carry Estacada to a title
ESTACADA, OR – On a cool August morning, Head Coach Andy Mott has only one thing on his mind, “Practice makes perfect.” The players are repeating the same play over and over again until it’s second nature. It’s time for football season in Estacada and the rumors are flying high around the town on the team.
With the departure of quarterback Andy Avants, wide receiver Sam Blankenship, running back Doug Kirchoffer, and several others, the players know they have to step up their game. “All the older kids have been playing varsity minutes from their sophomore year, so there’s a good consistency there”, said Mott in a phone interview about the upcoming year. “I think the biggest thing is getting the younger guys up to speed so they will be prepared. We have some new faces that didn’t even play for us last year that are stepping in for us on varsity.”

Sittner pitches almost perfection, Avants has 5 RBI’s in rout of Corbett
CORBETT, OR – The scoreboard was turned off during the 4th inning due to the score. It was an embarrassment to the home team and their fans, as the Rangers handled their business in the best way possible, a 19-0 shutout of league rival Corbett.
The scoring started very early for Estacada (8-3, 3-1 Tri-Valley Conference), as senior Levi Albrecht got an RBI groundout that allowed senior Andy Avants to score. Three more Ranger runs crossed the plate in the 2nd, as Avants singles and Albrecht tripled to deep center field, giving Estacada a 4-0 lead.
