LAVA BEARS SHOW THE OUTLAWS WHO'S BOSS

Two of the region’s finest baseball programs, and storied histories met up on ‘First Friday’ in Bend on the diamond for an inter-sectional game.

It’s a classic 5A power hosting a 4A consistent leader.

5th ranked, and State Runner-up Bend flexed it’s muscle early, and took advantage of a few miscues and errors by Sisters to rout the Outlaws, 11-1 in 6-innings.

Bend improves to 3-3 with the win, and hosts West Albany (4-2) Saturday at Bear Creek Fields. Sr. Dalton Hurd gets the win on the mound.

The Lava Bears top-4 hitters really swing the bat well, and are aggressive at the plate led by Sammy Godlove (ss), So. Elliott Willy 3B/SS/P, Sr. Dalton Hurd 3B/P, and Catcher Watters.

Sisters, 6-2, opens Sky-Em League play Monday hosting Cottage Grove. The Outlaws were a Final-4 team last June, and reached the Quarterfinals the 3 previous season under veteran Head Coach Steve Hodges.

The Outlaws return the 2013 Class 4A ‘Player of the Year’ in Catcher/Pitcher Joey Morgan, and Jardon Weems 3B/P along with junior SS/P Justin Harrer.

Harrer was 1st Team All-State last year, and Weems 3rd Team. The team also features a key newcome in 3B/C freshmen Ryan Funk.

Bend opens IMC play hosting Summit on Monday, April 14th in a 3-game series that week on Wednesday, and Friday.

The Lava Bears last won a State Title in 1987, and Sisters finished State Runner up in 2002. Pretty good bet that both of these teams will be in the ‘mix’ come June 7th Championship Day at Volcanoe Stadium in Keizer.
