All-American Sophomore slugger Michael Conforto (#8) laced a couple of doubles, and finished 4-for-4 with an RBI for the Beavers, but Oregon State left 10-runners on base with 6 in scoring position, and fell to Mississippi State 5-4 in the opening game of the NCAA College World Series.
Kavin Keyes hammered a RBI triple (pictured below) while Tyler Smith ripped two hits without an RBI, and Danny Hayes drove in a run, and nearly won the game for the #3 ranked Beavers (50-12).
With a 2-out in the bottom of the 9th, Hayes drove a ball to right that Hunter Renfroe caught on the warning track to end the game. Hayes threw his helmet to the ground as Renfroe gloved the ball, and the Bulldogs came pouring out of the dugout in celebration.
OSU was 5-feet away from a walk-off 3-run Home Run, but instead will face Louisville (51-13) in an elimination game Monday at Noon. The Cardinal were shout out by Indiana, 2-zip.
Ben Wetzler (9-1/2.11 ERA) is slated to start on the mound for the Beavs.
The Beavers left two runners stranded in both the 8th, and final inning as Sophomore Wes Rae hammered the game winner scoring Hunter Renfroe (see below picture) for the Dogs from Starkeville (49-18) who face Indiana Monday at 5p.
